Sparkasse Informatik

Sparkasse Informatik is a computer centre for savings banks in the south of Germany. One of SI's primary activities is to handle the implementation, installation and distribution, maintenance and processing of transactions performed by bank self-service equipment (such as ATMs, bank statement printers, information terminals, etc.).

In the past, SI developed a software system based on OS/2 to provide these services.

Remedy IT has both knowledge of the 'old' self-service software systems (from previous cooperation) and extensive experience with banking self-service systems and the conversion of software from DOS and OS/2 environments to Windows NT environments. For this reason, SI asked Remedy IT to assist them in the migration of the OS/2-based system to a Windows NT4 environment.

In the context of this project, Remedy IT provided SI with the following services:

  • assistance in the analysis and design phase;

  • installation and support of a Win32-based software development environment based on the RIME tool set developed by Remedy IT;

  • porting platform-specific software elements (such as 'named pipes', 'semaphores' etc.) from OS/2 to NT in a transparent manner;

  • database migration from the 'old' OS/2 DB2 system to the NT-based DB2 v.7 system;

  • porting network communication between server and self-service equipment from the IBM LAN Manager protocol to TCP/IP-based socket communication;

  • training and supporting internal SI team members.
